About Tirta Empul
Built in 962 AD during the Warmadewa dynasty, Tirta Empul (meaning 'holy water spring') is dedicated to Vishnu, the Hindu god of preservation.
The Melukat Purification Ritual
The Melukat is a traditional Balinese water purification ritual that involves:
- Bathing in Sacred Pools: 30+ stone fountains fed by natural spring
- Prayer and Offerings: Before entering the water
- Following the Flow: Moving from east to west through the pools
